Regular readers may have noticed many schools, churches and auditoriums almost always have a mouldering piano decomposing somewhere. So it was a slight change of pace to see an electric organ instead. It had gotten the customary vandal going-over, and its guts spilled circuit boards instead of piano wire. It felt like entering the 21st century, but for urbex.

Main Entrance

Somewhat neglected (by our group of photographers, at least), this old depot lacks the character or sheer size of some other notable urbex sites in Gary. However, I realized recently I hadn’t visited here since I came by my wide-angle lens, so I figured it’s worth at least a stop. The results may not be photographic gold, but it’s better than the batch I took some years back.
The station had fallen apart further in the intervening years, something to be expected but no less surprising considering the advanced state of decay it was in on our first visits. It’s little more than a concrete shell littered with slabs of fallen plaster. Sadly, other than the exterior, which boasts the name of the town over the main entrance as well as a faded “parking for cabs only” stencil, there’s little to suggest the original use of this building. We set to shoot what we could, however, and with such a less-than-ringing endorsement, here are my results.

Sometimes we come across scenes which appear to be a clamorous fall taking place before our eyes, and yet are mute and still. The ice here only serves to heighten the sense that the entirety is merely frozen, and will crash when we leave the room.

Oooh…what’s inside? What is it? Is it urban decay? Aw, man… it’s always urban decay. I was hoping for kittens. This is nice too, though.

I guess.
