The coming days will feature, in somewhat haphazard order, a series of photos from a recent trip to New York. There won’t be much in the way of description or narrative embroidery. Suffice it to say that it’s mostly from abandoned locales around the city. All these words, they numb the soul. Let’s look at some pictures instead?

Without getting into much detail, this was found in a pitch-black basement room in a very old medical facility. Whether or not it’s genuine is up for debate; it was found in a context which suggested that it may have been used in a staged shoot at some point in the past. Suffice it to say, if it is fake, it is quite realistic (I peered up its nose and inside its body cavity) and convincing. regardless, it was a bit unnerving to come across our friend here in the dark.

Out on the prairie while the winds shake the grasses and the clouds slide slowly across the horizon I found myself frequently just stopping to let it all happen around me.  I could have spent days here and never been bored a moment but sadly we were forced to leave by the pressures of time, exhaustion, and anticipation of  other places to see.  One day I will return to this place, and watch the sun set as the wind whispers secrets through the empty windows.

We were lucky enough to make our way into this church as a shaft of morning light was traversing the altar.

Perhaps one God has left, but Apollo’s eye still finds its way in every morning.

There’s a ghost town in Saskatchewan called Bents.  I had HEARD of Bents, but visited for the first time this past weekend.

Currently Bents has two houses, a store, a grain elevator, and a lot of old out buildings.  The town was abandoned after the train discontinued service to Bents…as was a similar fate as many small villages dotting the province.
